How to Use Student Examples in Describing Your Topic
How to Use Student Examples in Describing Your TopicIf you are a writing instructor and you are asked to teach a college writing course, consider using student samples of essays instead of the usual textbooks. While your college students are not able to follow every instruction of the book, they are more familiar with the format and style of your classroom discussions. The different topic areas that students often study when they participate in college writing courses are: grammar, composition, spelling, and punctuation. Your courses would be incomplete without using these topics as a basis for the descriptive essay students will need to write. But how can you get your students to use their memory and writing tools properly? The best method of providing practice for your students is to show them written examples of how their sentences structures and sentence words and phrases will be used when they are writing an essay. For example, if the subjects of the writing course are American po litics and public affairs, then you might want to focus on descriptive essay samples by current American politicians and political actors such as Al Gore and John Edwards. How do these various politicians describe themselves? In order to arrive at a final analysis of the true meaning of what they mean, they all emphasize three major elements. The first is personality. They define the kind of people who elected them into office, who they relate to, and who they oppose. Next, the topics they cover are the policies, legislation, and initiatives they have done.Lastly, they describe their achievements and progress. These could include the plan for a specific community project, a milestone reached, and the steps to be taken in future activities and projects. Finally, the focus is on what was accomplished in the process of learning about the new ideas and policies. The purpose of using these examples of speeches and documents is to create a persuasive style that can be translated into the pr ecise writing styles of the student. They should find it easier to communicate information in the way that the speech or document was written. Also, there is a focus on their own language to make it more clear. They are able to achieve an understanding of what their speech is saying because they are able to understand the structure of the language as outlined in the sample. It is an amazing thing that students learn so much from these sample essays, yet they also have to use this to create essay questions and term papers. These include examples of developing a paragraph, setting a period, starting a sentence, ending a sentence, and telling a story. These are all crucial parts of writing an essay.Students do not have to be tested for their ability to use descriptive essay student samples. You are showing them that the use of the descriptive elements makes sense and gives an easier reading style. Thus, they will use the techniques in class to express themselves effectively.
